- en - Dear Friends and Family,
I hope you’re having a good year so far! I can’t believe it’s already 2010, wow, last year went by so fast! This last March, I got the opportunity to go on my first medical missions trip to Cameroon, Africa, which was such an amazing and humbling life experience. Then made a move from LA to Long Beach 3 weeks after returning from the trip. It’s worked out very well and I’m blessed to have a lot of great friends living so close by now. I’ve also been skating much more the past year…and this past October I was asked by my old Skate sponsor (USD) to join their new “All-Star” Legends team for 2010. It’s been fun, and good exercise, to get out skating and filming again!
Last’s years trip to Cameroon was incredible and life changing. I met so many great people and helped the HTI team treat over 2,800 people from 4 remote villages surrounding Bafoussam, Cameroon. The local people were so kind and thankful for us being there. Working with all the doctors and dentists was very cool & such a good learning experience. I still can’t believe I even pulled some teeth on my own! It was amazing to seeing how God works through people, and not by being “preachy”, but just by showing our compassion and a willingness to help the local villagers with free dental and medical help. I attached a few of my favorite shots from last year….It was hard to just pick a few because I have to many good ones!
This year I was invited again by HTI and, I decided to return to Cameroon once more this March! I’ll be joining my Dad, Mom, Sister and the rest of the Health Teams International 2010 group in Cameroon March 22-April 3rd. I’ll be assisting my Dad in the dental area mostly…and working with the Doctors a little. This year will be a special one since It might be my Dad’s last trip and, I’ll be celebrating my 30th birthday also! The first week we will be going to remote villages only reachable by boats, and then the second, we’ll be along the coast in pigmy villages. I’ll have tons of great photos and stories to share when I return.
This trip does come all out of our pocket so it’s definitely not cheap (costs about $3,500). I’m usually really embarrassed and I don’t like asking for money, but if you do feel like you want to donate anything towards the trip it will help a lot and be so much appreciated. I know money is tight these days though, so even if you can’t help financially, your prayers for our team is most important.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I wish the best for you in 2010!
Sincerely,
Kevin Gillan
